The SAL Classroom is a program designed to provide children from low-income households with free access to specialised school lessons.

Classroom Design

Each classroom is designed to encourage interactivity and active student participation.

About the Classroom

The Program accommodates children of all abilities and is designed for the purpose of; (i) Providing children from underserved communities with good quality education, and;

(ii) Aid in developing best practices for designing and managing an effective and accessible classroom structure for students and teachers.

Student Interactions

All students are grouped in 4s on a round table and a majority of their work will be carried out as a group. Additionally, each student will be able separate their desks to perform individual activities.

The Students

The SAL follows a Nigerian primary school structure (Primary 1 through 5) therefore all student beneficiaries must be within primary school age at the start of each program. At year one, all student beneficiaries are between the ages of 6 and 9 years old.

Students with Disabilities

The SAL Classroom is designed to be inclusive for children of all abilities. It provides support needed by students living with disabilities, both physically and intellectually.

Student Nutrition

The SAL Classroom, though small, actively contributes to feeding beneficiaries from underserved households.

Freshly Made

The SAL nutrition is designed to ensure all classroom beneficiaries eat good quality and nutritious meals every day, covering breakfast and lunch. IAED hires the expertise of an experienced cook, and utilises locally sourced food items and national dishes.

Balanced Diet + Food Hygiene

A food timetable has been developed and is followed to ensure students have a balanced diet. For personal hygiene, health and safety reasons, every student is assigned their personal cutlery, plates and food storage.

Health & Safety

The SAL classroom puts the health and safety of all students and teachers first.

Subsidised Health Cover

All students and staff will have a medical file opened at a partner medical facility and will be entitled to a subsidised health cover of N10,000* a year.

First Aid

The classroom will make available a first aid station within close proximity of the classroom to guarantee that all minor injuries or health instances are swiftly tended to, pending the arrival or transfer to a medical facility (as informed by the severity of the situation).

Health Check

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, all staff and students will go through daily temperature checks to rule out the possibility of transmission of severe illnesses within the classroom.

Sanitisation

The Classroom staff undergoes sanitisation of high traffic areas on a daily basis. All students and staff will are also required to sanitise their hands before joining the classroom.

During breakfast and lunch time, staff preparing meals as well as students are required to wash their hands with soap before proceeding to handle/eat meals. General sanitisation is carried out once a week, or more, as the need arises.
