ABOUT THE CULTURE PRIZE
The ASL Culture Prize has been established to promote Nigerian culture through Art, Science, and Literature.
LITERATURE PRIZE
The Literature Prize aims to celebrate diverse Nigerian culture through short stories, essays, poems, and lyrics (in fiction and non-fiction form). Entries can be written as praise or critique of our past, present and future cultures, though care must be taken to not promote bigotry in any form or write content that unfairly targets any member or group of people within our society. The top three submissions will be invited to present to a panel of judges to determine an overall winner. *Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, there will be no physical panel this year.
Grading Criteria
Quality of presentation (Spellings, Grammar, aesthetics)
Quality of presenter(s) (Dress code, professionalism, understanding of subject matter)
Quality of speech/demonstration (All finalists will be asked to recite their submissions, as well as some other questions related to their topic of choice)*
Submission Guidelines
Qualified Applicants General: Secondary School Students, University Students, Graduates
Qualifying Submissions: Short Stories, Essays, Poems, and Lyrics
One submission per entrant (multiple entries will be disqualified)
Word Count: 500 words maximum
Photos may be included as part of your short story, essay, poem or lyrics (You must own rights or permission to use such photos)
Typeface: Arial, 12pt, with 1.5 spacing, aligned on both sides
Document should begin with full name at the top, indicate whether graduate, university or secondary school students, or other (Winning applications with no verifiable ID will be disqualified)
Document should be saved as a .doc or .pdf file
Title document as follows: Full Name, Title of poem, story etc.
SCIENCE
The Science Prize celebrates Nigerian culture through engineering, product design, ICT, architecture, and medicine. Entrants can submit their pieces of work from any of the aforementioned fields, and in the form of concept notes, concept art, designs, scale models, essays, and demonstrations. Each entry should be submitted in the form of a powerpoint presentation that demonstrates said concept. Each entry can be submitted individually or as a group (maximum of 4). The top three concepts will be invited to present to a panel of judges to determine an overall winner. *Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, there will be no physical panel this year.
Grading Criteria
Winners will be judged based on the following:
Quality of powerpoint presentation (Spellings, Grammar, aesthetics, etc)
Quality of presenter(s) (Dress code, professionalism, understanding of subject matter)
Quality of speech/demonstration
Availability of practical concepts (Don’t worry if you don’t have a actually models to show, simply explain why you don’t have one at the presentation)
Feasibility of concept (Please take very special care in this area: At the start of your presentation, be sure to indicate if your concept is designed within the realms of reality and what is available to us now or in the near future, or if your concept is one that takes a more futurist approach)

ART
The Art Prize aims to celebrate Nigerian Culture through graphic design and illustration. Entrants can submit their pieces of work in the form of digital art, illustrations, and graphic designs. Each entry can only be submitted individually. The top three concepts will be invited to present to a panel of judges to determine an overall winner. *Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, there will be no physical panel this year.
Grading Criteria
Winners will be judged based on the following:
Originality of Concept
Quality of presenter(s) (Dress code, professionalism, understanding of subject matter)
Quality of speech/demonstration
Paying attention to detail
Timeliness

Entrants should come along with a printed copy of their design. *Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, there will be no physical panel this year.
TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION
By participating in the culture Prize, you agree to the following:
All submissions are original concepts and you have not infringed on the rights of preexisting material
You give consent for IAED to use your submissions for promotional purposes
You give consent for IAED to expand on your idea, and attribute credit to you as the original creator
You have met the participation criteria
You have been actively involved in creating/writing your concept
You have a stable access to the internet and can make online submissions
You will be available to physically attend a judgement panel in Kaduna, or F.C.T, Abuja.
You agree to the possibility of being called back as a winning ambassador for the culture prize
If you win, you agree to have your name and idea published as part of the Culture Prize competition
DISQUALIFICATION
You may be disqualified from the competition for the following:
Providing false information about yourself or concerning your eligibility
Making multiple submissions, either as one person or under various profiles
Refusing to comply with the rules and terms provided
Making submissions of plagiarised content
Submitting content that: i) promotes hate, ii) violates the rights of others, iii) is illegal, as indicated by law, iv) spreads misinformation, v) deliberately spreads a false narrative
OWNERSHIP & RIGHTS
Exclusivity: You retain exclusive rights to your submission, however, as indicated above, by making a submission, where IAED elects to expand on your idea, you grant IAED permission to co-retain rights to the expanded idea.
Consent: By making a submission, you grant IAED permission to use said submissions across various platforms and media of the organisation. If you are a winner or runner-up participating at the judgement panel, you also grant IAED consent to take and share audio/visual recordings of your participation
Social Media: Any posts made by you on social media with regards to the culture prize can be re-shared, re-posted, or retweeted by IAED.
Compensation: You permit the organisation to use your name or likeness as part of promotional material for the culture prize without compensation.
OUR GUARANTEES
As the hosts of the Culture Prize, we have made a list of guarantees as part of your participation, as follows:
Your private information (such as means of ID, bank details) as part of the application process remains private and will not be shared with any unauthorised third-party
Please note, bank details are not part of the application process. Only Prize winners will be asked to provide such details for the purpose of paying their prize winnings.
Winners (one in number) are guaranteed monetary prizes, and certificates, with other prizes given, subject to availability
Runners-up (two in number) are also guaranteed monetary prizes, and certificates, but without other prizes
Any ideas that are personally supported and expanded upon by IAED will be done so in full collaboration with the authors of said ideas
